How to surf
We constantly hear "it looks so easy, I want to do that"
The truth is good surfers try to make it look easy. Watch footage of Kelly Slater doing an aerial 360- he makes it look effortless- BUT he has practised it thousands of times over the last 10- 15 years.
Most surfers agree it takes 12 months to ride small waves and up to 5 years to be confident in most situations.
Many people try to teach themselves- I've watched dozens as they struggle on the wrong equipment, in the wrong spot and in everyone's way for 6 months, and if they're lucky they get to the stage we have taken our clients to within a few lessons.
Basically you need Three things to learn how to surf-
- The right board- biggest , safest most stable you can get.
- The right location- shallow water , rolling white water away from rips, gutters and holes.
- Right technique- learn how to pop up- watch others, practise on the floor- fast and simple is best.
So give it a go ,but if you think this is too much to attempt- spare a few dollars and have a lesson- at least one!. It will save you a lot of grief and energy. Get through the basics, practise lots, then if you want to take it to the next level, give us a call.
